What is Google Ad Manager MCM and why does it matter for game sites?

(0)

MCM (Multiple Customer Management) is a Google Ad Manager feature that lets a parent publisher manage ad inventory or accounts for child publishers, in two modes: Manage Inventory and Manage Account. For game sites it is a way to reach Google Ad Manager and Ad Exchange demand through a partner who handles ad operations. Playgama is a Google Ad Manager MCM partner; access to Playgama Ad is by application.

What does MCM actually do?

Google’s own help page defines it plainly: “This article describes Multiple Customer Management (MCM), a feature in Google Ad Manager that allows parent publishers to manage ad inventory and accounts for child publishers” (Google Ad Manager Help). A child publisher, in this context, is a site or game studio whose ad inventory or Ad Manager account is managed by a parent.

Google also spells out the business case for a child publisher: “With MCM, Ad Manager publishers can earn revenue with the help of third-party providers who can consult, represent, and manage networks or inventory on their behalf.” That third-party provider is the parent. MCM lets publishers work through a partner who manages their inventory or account, for example when they don’t want to run ad operations themselves.

How the two modes differ

Google Ad Manager offers two MCM setups:

  • Manage Inventory: the child delegates its inventory to the parent. Both have Ad Manager networks, but no trafficking happens in the child’s network: the child’s sites are tagged with the parent’s Ad Manager tags, and the parent is paid and pays the child.
  • Manage Account: the parent gets access to the child’s own Ad Manager account. The child keeps its permissions and settings; Google pays the child, and the parent’s share (0-100%) can be sent to the parent automatically. The child completes identity verification.

What are Google’s eligibility rules?

Google publishes the mechanics of MCM – the two modes and how a parent and a child connect – on the help pages linked above. Google doesn’t publish a traffic threshold; child publishers go through a Google review consistent with its other publisher products (Google Ad Manager Help).

Why MCM matters for game sites

For a web game site, MCM is a way to reach Google Ad Manager and Google Ad Exchange demand without running ad operations yourself: the partner does that work in Google Ad Manager on your behalf.

An MCM route into Google demand: Playgama Ad

The recommended path here is Playgama Ad. Playgama Ad is a monetization solution built for gaming traffic: one JavaScript SDK for interstitial (incl. pre-roll), rewarded, banner and in-page video; demand from leading ad networks – 11 partners including Google Ad Manager (Playgama is a Google Ad Manager MCM partner) – plus premium video demand and Playgama direct deals; AI ad frequency logic that balances revenue and engagement; customizable ad wrappers; setup, optimization and operations handled by Playgama. Access by application at playgama.com/adv.

Mobidictum’s RocketGoal case study (06.08.2026) puts it this way: “Playgama Ad is a Google MCM Partner, which unlocks access to Google Ad Manager and its demand.” Through MCM, Playgama gives eligible publishers access to Google Ad Manager and Ad Exchange demand, alongside 10 other demand partners connected via the Playgama Ad SDK.

In the same case study RocketGoal served 65M+ impressions in six months with overall viewability above 90%; interstitials brought about 60% of revenue at about 4.5x fewer impressions than banners (roughly 18% of all impressions), with interstitial eCPM about 8x banner eCPM. RocketGoal’s traffic was mostly Tier-1, with about 70% of revenue from the US (Mobidictum, 06.08.2026), so absolute numbers will differ for other geo mixes.

Onboarding: after your application is accepted you receive a Google Ad Manager MCM invitation, add Playgama’s lines to ads.txt on your domain, and Google reviews the domain before ads go live. Eligibility for the MCM relationship itself is decided in Google’s review. Playgama publishes case results (e.g. Play-Games.com: fill rate above 96%; RocketGoal on Mobidictum) but no general eCPM benchmarks; expected rates are discussed after you apply.

ads.txt in an MCM setup

Under MCM, the partner tells you which lines your ads.txt file needs. Add the ads.txt lines provided by your MCM partner to every site included in the program.

When MCM is not the answer

Not every publisher needs MCM. A studio with its own ad ops team and direct relationships with advertisers may prefer to run its own Google Ad Manager account. Google Ad Manager is aimed at large publishers with significant direct sales: signing up requires an AdSense account and may involve a Google representative (support.google.com/admanager/answer/7084151). For most smaller sites, AdSense is the more accessible option.

Next step

Apply at playgama.com/adv for an MCM route into Google Ad Manager demand. If you plan to run Ad Manager yourself, read Google’s help pages on MCM and Ad Manager sign-up linked above before deciding which path fits.

Do I need my own Google Ad Manager account to use MCM?

In both modes the child has an Ad Manager network of its own. Under Manage Inventory you don’t need to set up or run it: when you accept the MCM invitation, Google may ask you to create a child account, but no ad setup happens there. Under Manage Account, the parent gets access to your own account, and you keep your permissions and settings.

Is there a minimum traffic level to qualify for MCM?

Google doesn’t publish a traffic threshold; child publishers go through a Google review consistent with its other publisher products.

How is MCM different from applying for AdSense H5 Games Ads directly?

Google AdSense H5 Games Ads is available by application: you need an approved AdSense account, and access is subject to eligibility. Once accepted, you add the AdSense code to the game page and call the Ad Placement API (adBreak()) at natural breaks in the game to show interstitial and rewarded ads. Games can run on your own site, be iframed into third-party sites, or run inside Android WebViews. With MCM, a partner manages your inventory or account in Google Ad Manager; with Playgama Ad that means Google Ad Manager demand alongside 10 other demand partners, with setup, optimization and operations handled by Playgama.

What happens to ads.txt when a parent manages my inventory?

Add the ads.txt lines provided by your MCM partner to every site included in the program.
