Host the build yourself (your own server, Netlify, Vercel, GitHub Pages) and handle SEO, PWA setup and ad monetization on your own, or use a website generation service that builds and hosts the site for you.

A standalone website means your HTML5 build lives on its own domain instead of inside a portal’s page. You have two practical routes: host the files yourself, or use a service that builds and hosts the site for you.

If you host it yourself, upload the build (usually an index.html plus assets) to a static host such as your own server, Netlify, Vercel or GitHub Pages. That covers hosting, but you’re still on the hook for SEO (meta tags, structured data, share previews), a PWA manifest if you want installability, and wiring up ad monetization yourself. If you’d rather skip that work, Playgama Wrap generates and hosts an SEO- and PWA-ready site for your game on your own domain with no code required; it’s in early access.

Where else can I publish a web game?

  • Poki – developer portal for submitting HTML5 games.
  • CrazyGames – developer portal for HTML5 games.
  • GameDistribution – distributes HTML5 games to partner sites.
  • itch.io – hosts HTML5 games in an iframe on its own domain.
  • Playgama – upload via the Developer Console at developer.playgama.com, get test feedback within 24 hours, and the game is published on playgama.com and distributed to partner portals.

Engine notes: Godot’s web export has no ads or third-party integrations by default and produces a build that fits into an iframe at the game’s size; Unity WebGL calls browser JavaScript through a .jslib plugin if you need custom page interaction.

Do I need a PWA manifest for a standalone game site?

Only if you want players to install it to their home screen or work offline. It’s not required to simply serve the game as a website.

Can I keep my game on itch.io and also have my own site?

Yes – keep itch.io as a storefront and host your own version on your own domain separately; the two are not exclusive.

Does hosting my own site handle monetization automatically?

No. Self-hosting only serves the files; you have to integrate an ad SDK or network yourself unless you use a service that wires it in.
