Crafting Your Jukebox

To make a jukebox in Minecraft, you’ll need 8 wooden planks (any type works) and 1 diamond. Arrange them in your crafting table with the diamond in the center and wooden planks surrounding it completely. This creates one jukebox that you can place anywhere in your world.

Playing Music Discs

Using a jukebox is straightforward – simply right-click (or tap on mobile) while holding a music disc. The disc will pop into the jukebox and start playing immediately. You’ll see the disc spinning inside the block, and music will play for anyone within roughly 65 blocks of the jukebox.

To stop the music and retrieve your disc, right-click the jukebox again without holding anything. The disc will pop out and you can pick it up to use elsewhere or store for later.

Finding Music Discs

Music discs are rare treasures you can discover in several ways:

  • Dungeon chests – Check strongholds, woodland mansions, and buried treasure
  • Creeper kills – Get a skeleton to accidentally shoot a creeper (tricky but rewarding)
  • Trading – Some villagers offer discs in exchange for emeralds
  • Piglin bartering – Trade gold ingots with piglins in the Nether

Redstone Integration

Jukeboxes emit a redstone signal when playing music, making them perfect for automated builds. The signal strength varies from 1-15 depending on which disc is playing – each disc has its own unique signal strength. This lets you create complex redstone contraptions that respond differently to various songs.

You can also use hoppers to automatically insert discs from below, though retrieving them still requires manual interaction. Some players build elaborate music systems using multiple jukeboxes and redstone timing circuits.

TL;DR

Craft a jukebox with 8 wooden planks and 1 diamond, then right-click with a music disc to play it. Right-click again to retrieve the disc.
