Adding Servers on Minecraft Xbox: Two Main Methods
Connecting to custom servers on Minecraft Xbox (Bedrock Edition) requires a bit more work than on PC, but it’s definitely doable. You have two primary approaches: using the server list or connecting through external methods.
Method 1: Featured Servers Tab
The easiest way is through Minecraft’s built-in server browser:
- Launch Minecraft and go to the main menu
- Select “Play” then “Servers”
- Browse the “Featured Servers” tab for popular options like Mineplex, The Hive, or CubeCraft
- Click any server to join instantly
These featured servers are pre-approved by Microsoft and offer the most stable connection experience.
Method 2: Adding Custom Servers via Network Settings
For servers not in the featured list, you’ll need to modify your network settings:
- On your Xbox, go to Settings > Network > Advanced Settings
- Note down your current DNS settings (you’ll need these later)
- Change your Primary DNS to a custom DNS service that supports Minecraft server redirection
- Popular options include BedrockConnect (104.238.130.180) or other community DNS services
- Restart your Xbox and launch Minecraft
- Go to the Servers tab – you should now see additional server options
Important Considerations
Keep in mind that Xbox Minecraft runs Bedrock Edition, so you can only connect to Bedrock-compatible servers. Java Edition servers won’t work. Also, some custom servers may have varying stability compared to featured ones.
The DNS method essentially tricks your Xbox into thinking custom servers are featured servers, giving you access to a much wider range of multiplayer experiences.
If you’re looking for more gaming variety beyond Minecraft servers, you might enjoy exploring other creative building and adventure experiences.
TL;DR
Xbox Minecraft players can join servers through the Featured Servers tab or by changing DNS settings to access custom Bedrock servers.
