How to implement rewarded video ads that give players in-game bonuses?

Show a clear in-game prompt offering a bonus, request a rewarded ad only after the player opts in, listen for the ad-completed callback, and grant the reward only when that callback fires – never on ad start or on error.

Rewarded ads are opt-in, unlike interstitials player chooses to watch wiki.playgama.com
Reward should be granted on completion callback only adViewed / adDismissed developers.google.com
Revenue depends on requests, fill rate, eCPM requests x fill rate x eCPM/1000 playgama.com

The implementation pattern is the same regardless of SDK: show a UI prompt naming the bonus (‘Watch a video for +50 coins’), request the ad only when the player taps it, then grant the reward only from the ad’s own completion callback – never immediately after the request, and never if the ad errors or the player closes it early. This keeps the reward tied to an actual view, which is what ad networks require and what keeps players trusting the offer. Playgama Ad connects one SDK to 11 demand partners, including Google Ad Manager, and supports rewarded, interstitial, banner and in-page video placements.

With Google’s Ad Placement API, you call adBreak() with type reward and pass callbacks: beforeReward fires so you can show the opt-in prompt, and adViewed or adDismissed tells you whether the player actually watched. Grant the bonus only inside adViewed. Google applies a frequency cap automatically and returns frequencyCapped in breakStatus if the player has seen too many ads recently – handle that case by disabling the button or offering a non-ad alternative.

Checklist: place the prompt at a natural pause, never during action; disable double-taps while the ad loads; log show rate and completion separately so you can see where players drop off; and test the no-fill path so a missing ad does not softlock the reward flow.

Where can I get rewarded demand?

Options include Google AdSense H5 Games Ads, or gaming-focused platforms like AdinPlay, Playwire, Venatus and AppLixir, each running their own header bidding or direct demand for rewarded formats.

When should a rewarded ad prompt appear?

At a natural pause the player chooses, like after a level ends or from a shop screen – never mid-action, and never forced without an opt-in tap.

What happens if the rewarded ad has no fill?

Handle the empty-response case in code by hiding the option or offering a non-ad way to get the bonus, so the reward flow never gets stuck.
