How to use Claude Code for developing browser games via CLI?

Point Claude Code at a web-export engine or JS framework project, let it write and edit code in your terminal as normal, build for the browser, and test in-browser. Add an MCP server so the same CLI session can also upload builds and manage publishing.

At a glance

Fact Value Source
Engines exporting to web Unity, Godot, Construct 3, GameMaker developer.mozilla.org
JS frameworks used directly in browser Phaser, PixiJS, three.js, Babylon.js developer.mozilla.org
MCP lets AI agents call external tools open standard modelcontextprotocol.io

Claude Code works in your terminal like any CLI coding assistant: you run it inside a project folder, and it reads, writes and edits files, runs build commands and can debug errors it sees in the output. For a browser game, pick your stack first, then let Claude Code operate inside it – it does not replace the engine or framework, it drives the code around it.

Which project structure to give it

  • Engine with web export: Unity (WebGL builds), Godot (HTML5 export), Construct 3 or GameMaker. Claude Code can edit scripts, C# or GDScript, and run the CLI build/export command for you, but you still open the exported build in a browser to test it.
  • JS framework run directly in the browser: Phaser, PixiJS, three.js or Babylon.js, using Canvas or WebGL under the hood. This is the more natural fit for Claude Code since it is reading and writing JavaScript/TypeScript directly, no export step, just a dev server and a browser tab.

For state, use Web Storage for saves and WebSockets if you add multiplayer; ask Claude Code to wire these up and write the tests around them rather than hand-coding boilerplate yourself.

By default Claude Code only touches local files; connecting the Playgama MCP server lets the agent upload builds and publish a sandbox link directly from the CLI.

Once the build runs in a browser, you can distribute it through Poki, CrazyGames, GameDistribution, playgama.com, or itch.io.

Does Claude Code replace a game engine?

No. It edits code, runs build commands and helps debug inside whatever engine or framework you choose; you still need Unity, Godot or a JS framework to build and export.

Can Claude Code publish a game by itself?

Only if connected to an MCP server that exposes publishing tools. Without one it can only read and write local project files, not upload builds or submit to a store.
