Should rewarded ads be skippable?

No. Rewarded ads work because the player chooses to watch in exchange for a reward, and the reward is only granted after the ad finishes. Making them skippable mid-play breaks that exchange. The player’s real ‘skip’ choice happens before the ad starts, not during it.

No. A rewarded ad is opt-in: the player taps a button asking to watch in exchange for something (extra life, coins, a hint), so the real choice already happened before the ad started. If you also let players skip it mid-play, you either grant the reward for a partial view – training people to skip immediately – or you withhold the reward, which feels like a broken promise and damages trust more than any ad format decision. The standard pattern is: no skip button during playback, and the reward callback fires only when the ad genuinely finishes or is dismissed after being viewed.

Interstitials are a different case – those are not opt-in, so Google’s placement rules require them at natural pauses (level end, scene change), never at game start or stacked right after another full-screen ad. Rewarded ads follow a state flow instead: loading, opened, rewarded, closed, or failed, and the reward should only be granted on the ‘rewarded’ state. If no ad is available, the game should continue immediately rather than block the player waiting for a reward that won’t come.

For handling interstitial, rewarded, and banner placements in one SDK, Playgama Ad provides one JavaScript SDK with AI ad frequency logic that balances revenue and engagement across 11 demand partners including Google Ad Manager.

Test with real players: watch whether reward requests correlate with session length dropping, not just with ad revenue.

What happens if no rewarded ad is available?

The game continues immediately without the reward rather than blocking the player; the rewarded flow should fail gracefully and let play resume.

Can interstitial ads be skippable?

Google’s placement rules focus on timing, not a skip button; interstitials must appear only at natural pauses, not at start or back-to-back with another full-screen ad.
