Netherite Location: The Nether Only
You can only find netherite in the Nether dimension – it doesn’t exist anywhere in the Overworld or End. Specifically, you’ll need to look for ancient debris, which is the raw ore form that gets smelted into netherite scraps.
Best Y-Levels for Ancient Debris
Ancient debris spawns most frequently between Y-levels 8-22 in the Nether. The sweet spot is around Y-level 15, where you’ll find the highest concentration. You can check your coordinates by pressing F3 (Java Edition) or enabling coordinates in your world settings (Bedrock Edition).
Where to Mine in the Nether
Focus your mining efforts in these areas:
- Nether Wastes biome – The classic red Nether terrain with the best spawn rates
- Crimson Forest – Decent spawn rates with fewer hostile mobs
- Warped Forest – Lower spawn rates but safest for mining
- Avoid Basalt Deltas – ancient debris is much rarer here
Mining Strategies That Work
Strip mining works best for finding ancient debris. Dig horizontal tunnels at Y-level 15, spacing them 2-3 blocks apart. Ancient debris is blast-resistant, so some players use beds or TNT to clear large areas quickly – just be careful not to blow yourself up!
What Ancient Debris Looks Like
Ancient debris appears as dark brown blocks with gold-colored streaks. They’re always found in small veins of 1-3 blocks and never spawn exposed to air – you’ll always need to mine through other blocks to reach them.
From Ancient Debris to Netherite
Once you’ve collected ancient debris, smelt it in a furnace to get netherite scraps. You’ll need 4 netherite scraps plus 4 gold ingots to craft one netherite ingot at a crafting table. Each piece of netherite gear requires one netherite ingot plus the corresponding diamond item using a smithing table.

TL;DR
Netherite only exists in the Nether as ancient debris ore, found most commonly at Y-levels 8-22. Mine in Nether Wastes biome for best results, then smelt debris into scraps.
