About Chess Ops: Animated Retro-Tech Warzone Chess

Chess Ops takes classic chess and rebuilds it as a fully animated, retro-tech warzone played through an old-school CRT aesthetic. Every piece on the board doubles as a weapon: the Pawn carries a tactical pistol, the Knight wields a samurai sword, the Bishop operates as a sniper, the Rook rolls in as a military tank, the Queen fires a minigun, and the King steps up with boxing gloves. Each capture triggers a fully animated 3D combat sequence rather than a simple swap of squares.

One scene shows a dark board made up of an eight-by-eight grid of alternating textured grey squares. Another moment on the board shows small green and red orbs placed within circular bases across the grid.

The game strips out traditional safety nets entirely—no Check warnings appear, and moving the King out of danger is never forced. Ties are also off the table: only one player wins, and an operation timer that hits zero means an instant loss.

How to Play Chess Ops

Chess Ops runs on standard chess movement rules but layers a Tactical Dashboard and Elimination Streak system on top. The goal is to outmaneuver your opponent while managing the dashboard's active tools and keeping your own King alive without any system prompts to warn you of danger.

Tactical Dashboard

The Tactical Dashboard puts a fingerprint scanner, active radars, a live elimination cam feed, and streak activation buttons directly at your command. Interacting with these elements is central to triggering the game's special abilities.

Elimination Streaks

• 2-Elimination Streak: Triggers Stand and Shoot mode, an altered vision state
• 3-Elimination Streak: Calls in an Airstrike

Streaks require capturing enemy pieces without losing one of your own. Once a streak threshold is reached, hold the fingerprint scanner on the dashboard to confirm and launch the ability.

Game Modes

• vs A.I.: Four different threat levels, set by scrolling the Threat Level wheel on the main menu
• 2 Player 1v1: Local head-to-head, including a Tabletop Mode built for two players on mobiles and tablets
• Online Multiplayer: Compete against players worldwide in online matches
• Public Matches: Jump in against new opponents immediately
• Private Matches: Set up a head-to-head session with friends

Ranked Progression & ELO

Winning games raises your Rank level and increases your ELO Points, tracking your standing over time.

Controls

• Left-Click / Tap: Select a piece, choose a highlighted tile to move or attack, and interact with the tactical dashboard
• Click & Hold / Touch & Hold: Press and hold the fingerprint scanner on the dashboard to confirm and launch Elimination Streaks (Airstrikes & Altered Vision)
• Drag / Swipe: Scroll through the Threat Level wheel on the main menu to set the A.I. difficulty
