Explainable Minesweeper
About Explainable Minesweeper
Explainable Minesweeper is a minesweeper game built on a single promise: every board is solvable by logic alone, with no guessing required. Instead of mines, sleeping hedgehogs are hidden across the field, and the player's companion is Pip the meerkat, who guides and explains every deduction along the way.
The game offers 16 board sizes ranging from 5×5 to 20×20, with 200 boards at each size — 3,200 boards in total. A Today's Field mode delivers a new board every day, with a different size assigned to each day of the week, and progress is saved so a board can be finished across multiple sessions. As players clear boards on more days, Pip's camp grows, adding structures like a tent, lookout tower, garden, dock, and more. Eight field themes are available to unlock, a leaderboard lets players climb the ranks by clearing boards, and the game supports 12 languages.
How to Play Explainable Minesweeper: Find Every Hedgehog by Reading the Numbers
Each number on the board shows how many hedgehogs are hiding in the eight cells surrounding it. The goal is to open every cell that contains no hedgehog, clearing the board completely.
Opening a hedgehog cell or placing a wrong flag costs a heart. Each board starts with 3 hearts, and a revive is available when hearts run out. When all of a number's hedgehogs have been flagged, that number can be activated to open all of its remaining unflagged neighbors at once.
Whenever progress stalls, tapping Hint prompts Pip to identify a safe cell and explain the reasoning behind it. Even complex deductions — such as comparing two numbers — are illustrated with a hatched shared area so the technique becomes clear. A short tutorial is available for new players, and large boards support zooming in for a closer look.
