Mosaicat
About Mosaicat
Mosaicat is a single-player puzzle game where every move you make reveals a piece of a picture hidden beneath the board. The goal is to cut the entire grid into rectangles, guided by numbers that tell you exactly how large each rectangle must be. Place a rectangle correctly and the tiles it covered transform into part of an image you have not seen yet — a cactus, a teapot, a small orange cat — built out of your moves rather than revealed all at once at the end.
There is no timer, no lives, and nothing to lose. A rectangle that does not fit is simply refused, and you try a different shape or position. The game waits as long as you need. With 757 puzzles — each verified by machine to have exactly one solution — no board ever comes down to guessing. Puzzles start small enough to learn on and grow more demanding as you progress. Once you reach the end, they cycle back as new puzzles on the same pictures.
Ten colour themes, both light and dark, let you adjust the look of the board. And when you finish a puzzle, a cat called Tuna turns up to mark the occasion.
How to Play Mosaicat
The board is covered in tiles, and some carry a number. That number is the exact size of the rectangle it belongs to — a 6 means the rectangle covering that square must be exactly six tiles, which could be 1×6, 2×3, 3×2, or 6×1.
Core Rules
- Each rectangle covers exactly one number.
- That number equals the count of squares the rectangle covers.
- Rectangles never overlap.
- Every square on the board ends up inside one rectangle.
Placing Rectangles
Pick a number, work out where its rectangle can fit, then drag across the grid to draw it and release to place it. The tiles it covered turn into part of the hidden picture. Repeat until the entire board is filled. A rectangle that does not belong is refused — nothing is lost and nothing is counted against you, so draw another.
Hints
When a board will not open, the hint button opens one rectangle for you. Three hints are available, and after those are used a short video buys another.
