About Chess: Classic Two-Player Strategy Board Game
Chess is a classic two-player strategy board game played on an 8×8 grid. Each player commands an army of 16 pieces—pawns, rooks, knights, bishops, a queen, and a king—and the goal is to checkmate the opponent's king, trapping it with no legal escape. The game rewards logic, tactics, and long-term planning, with each piece type moving differently to create endless strategic possibilities. A grid of alternating matte black and light grey squares provides the play area. In one scene, a vertical strip of three squares appears highlighted in emerald green.
With its rich history, timeless rules, and competitive appeal, Chess stands as both a mental challenge and a test of patience and foresight, welcoming players of all skill levels.
How to Play Chess: Checkmate the Opponent's King
The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king—leaving it trapped with no legal escape. Players take turns moving one piece at a time, and each piece type moves differently, which is the foundation of the game's deep strategic depth. Always wait for your turn before acting.
To make a move, click one of your pieces to select it; legal moves will usually highlight on the board. Then click the destination square to complete the move. All game interactions are handled through the mouse.
