Ruthless! Merciless Cards is an online multiplayer card game rooted in the crazy eights family, but built around three rules that give it a sharper edge. The goal is simple — empty your hand before anyone else, or outlast every rival. Penalties force you to draw, and any player who reaches 25 cards is eliminated, so the pressure never fully lifts.

The deck runs 168 cards, the interface supports five languages, and the game is free. When no real opponents are available, bots with personality fill the seats.

How to Play Ruthless! Merciless Cards

The basic rule follows the crazy eights pattern: play a card that matches either the colour or the number of the card on top of the pile. If nothing in your hand fits, draw from the deck. Penalties also force draws, and reaching 25 cards means elimination — so managing your hand size is as important as matching cards.

Three Rules That Set It Apart

• RUNS: Drop a whole sequence of consecutive numbers in the same colour in a single turn. The last card in the run determines the active colour, and a well-timed run can land a penalty and clear a large portion of your hand at once.
• COLD BLOOD: One token per match. Using it freezes the penalty heading your way and doubles the next penalty you deal out.
• DOUBLE!: Raises the XP at stake. Rivals can fold before it takes effect.

Controls

• Click a card (Desktop): Play that card
• Click the deck (Desktop): Draw a card
• First tap on a card (Mobile, full hand): Lifts the card
• Second tap on a lifted card (Mobile): Plays the card
• Swipe a card upward (Mobile): Plays the card immediately
• Tap the first card of a run: Starts a run; a magenta badge shows how long the run can extend, and the game highlights valid follow-up cards
• Tap following cards one by one: Adds cards to the run in sequence
• Swipe up or press PLAY RUN: Drops the entire run at once
• LAST CARD! button (bottom row): Call it when down to one card — if a rival presses CAUGHT! first, you draw instead
• COLD BLOOD button (bottom row): Freezes the incoming penalty and doubles the next one you deal; one use per match
• DOUBLE! button (bottom row): Raises the XP at stake; rivals may fold before it lands
• Lifebuoy icon (top right): Toggles beginner hints on and off

Colour and rival choices appear on screen whenever a played card requires them. Action buttons in the bottom row only appear when they are available to use.
