Forest Dugout
About Forest Dugout: Calm First-Person Bushcraft Shelter Simulator
Forest Dugout is a calm first-person bushcraft and primitive building simulator set in the woods. The goal is to construct a warm, lived-in underground shelter from scratch — digging down through humus, sand, and clay, raising log walls, roofing with birch bark and turf, and lighting a clay stove before the first snow arrives. You'll find no enemies and no timers, making the pace entirely your own.
The game unfolds across three chapters. Chapter 1, The Dugout, covers marking a dry spot with pegs and twine, cutting turf, digging 1.5 m down, felling and debarking spruces, building the log frame and roof, then adding a stove and chimney, a door, a bunk, and a table. Chapter 2, Life by the Dugout, moves into a summer in the woods: foraging mushrooms with a field guide and distinguishing them from deadly lookalikes, fishing with a float at a beaver pond, digging a root cellar, weaving a willow fish trap, building a smokehouse, and stacking firewood for winter. Chapter 3, Across the River, has you patching a sunken dugout canoe with moss, rowing across the current, and meeting the forester at his cordon.
Every spadeful lands on a real heap, each soil layer sounds different, a robin comes for the worms, and a tripod camera turns completed work into a time-lapse. Forest Dugout runs free in the browser on PC and mobile.
How to Play Forest Dugout: Build Day by Day
The goal is a warm, lived-in dugout built day by day. 5 m. On following days, fell spruces, saw and debark logs, raise the walls and roof, and build the stove. In Chapter 3, row across the river in the patched canoe to reach the forester's cordon.
A tripod camera is available to turn completed portions of work into a time-lapse, and a notebook keeps track of progress. The menu is accessible at any time during play.
