Broken Computer drops you inside a retro 90s desktop simulator where an old, damaged machine holds a dark secret. The premise is tight and deliberate: find the computer, fix it, read its files, and stay skeptical of the camera. Five distinct tasks drive the story forward, each one peeling back another layer of what the system is hiding. The whole experience is story-driven, built around detective logic and careful reading rather than reflex.
How to Play Broken Computer
Start by reading the task journal and the system files — they tell you what needs doing and in what order. The terminal is the primary tool throughout the game, and knowing its commands is essential to progress.
The Five Tasks
- Repair the memory overflow
- Recover a deleted report
- Crack the password
- Stop a suspicious process
- Unlock the hidden drive
Terminal Commands
- type: read file contents
- fix: repair system errors
- recover: retrieve deleted files
- decode -s: decode secured or scrambled data
- kill: stop a running process
- mount d: --key: unlock the hidden drive using a key
- netstop: stop remote connections and win the game
Beyond the terminal, the file manager, browser, and messenger are all available tools for gathering information and completing tasks. The final objective is to stop the remote connections by running netstop in the terminal. A hidden snake game is also tucked inside the system, and finding the secret ending requires thorough exploration. Completed runs are tracked on the speedrun leaderboard, and achievements are available to unlock.
