How to Play The Long Night

The Goal: Survive the frozen apocalypse. Your mission is brutal: keep your fire burning, build a settlement from nothing, explore a massive procedural map, and assemble a spaceship. One goal. Zero hand-holding.

Keep the Fire Alive

Press F to stoke flames. Hit G to gather wood from the forest. The fire dies? Game over. Simple loop: Gather. Feed. Survive. Watch strangers arrive when warmth spreads. This is your lifeline.

Build Your Colony

Strangers show up? Put them to work. Construct traps, huts, tannery, smokehouse, smithy, and workshop. Each building unlocks new crafting options. Rich crafting tree means dozens of tools and weapons. Press T to check traps for meat. Press E to embark on expeditions.

Explore the Frozen Wilds

Find the compass first. Unlocks the world map. Before every trip: stock water, cured meat, torches, and weapons. Navigate with arrows or WASD. Watch your hunger, thirst, and health bars constantly. Explore ruins, caves, cities, and the ship. Procedural generation means every playthrough is different. Dozens of random events. Combat with beasts, bandits, and soldiers.

Combat Strategy

Keys 1–9 attack with different weapons. Press E to eat meat mid-fight. Press H for medicine. Press K to raise your shield. Upgrade gear at the smithy before facing soldiers. Hoard supplies from every expedition. The final launch requires maximum prep.
