About Microgic 89: Retro Tile Puzzle Inside a 1980s Microchip

Microgic 89 is a retro tile puzzle set inside a 1980s microchip. You play as BYTE, a courier navigating grid-based boards to collect data chips, unlock sockets, and reach the exit before the timer hits zero. The game offers a classic top-down view and lets you flip to 3D at any time. Grey metallic-textured blocks form the perimeter and interior walls of the play area in several scenes. One scene shows animated orange and yellow flames occupying specific floor tiles within the grid. Another scene features a blue textured strip resembling a water hazard flowing between blocks.

Across 22 hand-built levels, each board introduces a different machine or hazard — sliding ice floors, force belts, teleport pads, cloning machines, trap doors, live bombs, and patrolling bugs. Nothing on the board is decoration; every gadget present must be used. A full level editor is built in, letting you draw your own maps and play levels published by other players.

The goal is to collect every data chip on the board, step onto the socket to open it, then reach the exit before TIME reaches zero.

• Water and fire are fatal unless BYTE is carrying the matching boots.

• Push a block into water to build a bridge over it.
• Coloured doors require the matching key.
• Bombs destroy whatever steps on them.
• Monsters walk fixed patrol routes — wait for the gap, then cross.
