About Chess 2025: Classic Chess Against the Computer

Chess 2025 brings the classic game of chess to your browser with a focused, no-frills experience built around a single mode: playing against the computer. The artificial intelligence opponent comes in three difficulty levels, so a complete beginner can find their footing on easy while more seasoned players may test themselves against the hardest setting. How to Play Chess 2025

The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king — that means the king is in check with no legal escape. If a position arises where a player has no legal move but the king is not in check, the game ends in a draw by stalemate.

Castling

Castling is a special move available when the king and rook are both in their original positions and no pieces stand between them. The king moves two squares toward the rook, and then the rook jumps to the square the king just crossed.

Castling is not permitted in any of the following situations:

• The king or rook has already moved during the game
• The king is currently in check
• The king would pass through a square that puts it in check
