Checkmate the Genius
About Checkmate the Genius
Checkmate the Genius pits you against a ladder of 10 eccentric opponents, starting with Pip, an 8-year-old prodigy, and climbing all the way to Dr. Vex, a self-proclaimed IQ-250 genius. The goal is to solve chess puzzles faster and smarter than each rival expects. With over 25,000 real puzzles that adapt to your level — covering mates, forks, pins, skewers, and more — the challenge scales whether you're a beginner or a club player. No opponent waits for you, and every puzzle is designed to be solved in under a minute.
Each rival has a favourite tactic and plenty of commentary on your moves. Progress earns stars, crowns, stickers, and board themes. A daily streak keeps the habit going, and the Puzzle Trainer offers 62 hand-picked packs for sharpening a single skill. When time is tight, Blitz mode gives you 3 minutes, 3 mistakes, and as many puzzles as you are able to crack.
How to Play Checkmate the Genius: Solve Puzzles, Beat Rivals
Select a piece and then choose where it should go. The objective is to find the best move in each position — in mate puzzles, any checkmating move counts. Every wrong move costs a heart, so solve enough puzzles before your hearts run out to defeat the rival. Beat each rival to unlock the next, continuing up the ladder until you reach Dr. Vex.
If you get stuck, a hint system offers two levels of help: the first reveals which piece to move, and the second shows the full move.
Controls
- Tap a piece: Select it
- Tap destination square: Move the selected piece
