How to Play Driftworld

The goal is brutal. Row 100,000 meters across the ocean. Don't starve. Don't drown. Don't get murdered by pirates. Along the way? Build a floating fortress. Rescue survivors. Fight sea monsters. Driftworld is part crafting sim, part crew manager, part boss battle arena.

Core Loop: Row, Gather, Survive

Press WASD to row. Grab floating debris from the water. Planks. Barrels. Rope. Expand your raft from 4 planks to a multi-story base. Build a Kitchen to cook fish. Build a Workshop to research tech. Build Turrets to fend off pirate raids. Hunger and thirst drain constantly. Catch fish with Rods and Nets. Collect rainwater with Barrels and Rain Catchers. Sleep matters too. No rest = slower crafting.

Crew Management: Rescue and Command

Spot a drowning NPC? Row to them. Each survivor has a class: Fighter, Fisher, Cook, Doctor, Engineer. They auto-work on buildings. But watch their morale. Low morale = mutiny. Feed them. Hydrate them. Heal them at the Infirmary. Assign them smart. Put the Fisher on nets. Put the Engineer on the Workshop. Press C to manage crew stats.

Combat and Progression

Pirates attack as you advance toward the Lighthouse. Craft weapons. Start with a Paddle. Upgrade to a Crossbow. Press Space to attack. Press Q to switch weapons. Build Turrets for auto-defense. Boss fights include Sea Fortresses and Krakens. Night brings terror events. Storms damage your raft. Research 5 Tech Branches in the Workshop to unlock better gear: fishing upgrades, weapons, defense structures, health items, and speed boosts. Trade at islands. Complete quests for rare materials. Press R to anchor at ports.

Prioritize the Workshop early. Tech unlocks everything. Don't ignore crew morale—mutiny ends runs fast. Build Rain Catchers before storms hit. Fish at night when pirates sleep. Use Tab for inventory sorting. Assign your Engineer to research 24/7. Unlock achievements between runs—they carry over and boost your next attempt. After beating the Lighthouse? Endless mode unlocks. Keep rowing forever.
