They Are Coming
About They Are Coming
They Are Coming is a side-scrolling hybrid that blends roguelike, tower defense, and base building into a zombie survival experience. A zombie apocalypse has engulfed the world — hordes of the undead block every path, and the only way forward is through them.
Two distinct modes shape the experience. Defense puts you in the role of a survivor returning to an orphanage to protect your brothers and sisters, buying weapons and tools from the administrator to hold back daily waves of zombies. Sandbox unlocks all items from the start, letting you freely build defenses, set zombie counts and types, customize parameters, and experiment with tactics without any threat of defeat.
How to Play They Are Coming
Select a mode before jumping in. Defense runs as a day-by-day survival challenge: move forward, eliminate every zombie in your path, and reinforce your position with barricades, turrets, and traps purchased from the administrator. Each new day brings stronger enemies in greater numbers — some run faster, others sport armored heads and require more damage to drop. Starting gear is a pistol, a shotgun, and a knife for close-range threats.
Combat Techniques
- Targeted shooting: Hit zombie legs to slow them down; aim for the head to guarantee a kill.
- Melee range: Keep distance — zombies that close in slow you down and deal damage. Use melee weapons to finish them off fast.
- Barricades and traps: When numbers get overwhelming, construct barriers to funnel and stop the horde.
Characters
- Runner: Faster than standard zombies — prioritize taking it down quickly.
- Armor Walker: Armored zombie that absorbs more damage before going down.

FAQ
What do you lose when you die in Defence mode?
Defeat in Defence mode means losing everything — all progress resets. Sandbox mode exists as a consequence-free alternative where no defeat condition applies.
How do coins and new weapons unlock as days progress?
Each new day brings the opportunity to earn more coins, buy new items, and upgrade character stats. Advancing further unlocks additional weapons and items available through the administrator.
What gear is available right from the start?
The opening loadout includes a pistol, a shotgun, and a knife — solid early-game tools for ranged and close-quarters threats.
Which character stats can be upgraded?
Strength, speed, and other character stats are all upgradeable. Traps and barricades can also be purchased to reinforce defenses when zombie numbers spike.
How does difficulty scale across days?
Every day the zombie count grows and enemy strength increases. Runners appear moving faster than standard zombies, and Armor Walkers arrive requiring significantly more damage to bring down.
