Aquarium of Surprises
About Aquarium of Surprises: Calm Idle Tank Game
Aquarium of Surprises is a calm idle game built around a small fish tank. Fish swim on their own, coins accumulate without any clicking, and the whole experience is about deciding what to add next. The shop holds 10 kinds of fish, 7 plants, 7 decorations, and 11 upgrades, each with a clearly stated effect. Pearls unlock special decorations and 4 aquarium themes. Six rare visitors can join a collection of 16 creatures, and events drift through the tank — coin bubbles, a chest, glass to clean — keeping things gently lively without demanding attention.
All graphics are vector, the sound is synthesised directly in the browser, and the entire game weighs under 150 KB. Several scenes show a dark teal background filling most of the frame above a flat, gray-brown base. Small green blade-like shapes and a circular gray form appear on that bottom surface in multiple views.
How to Play Aquarium of Surprises
The tank runs itself. Every fish earns coins independently, and the top bar tracks your coins, income per second, pearls, and aquarium level at a glance.
Spending Coins in the Shop
Open the Shop to put those coins to work. Its tabs cover Fish, Plants, Decor, Upgrades, and Themes. Each additional fish of the same species costs a little more than the last, while plants and decorations are one-time purchases. Upgrades raise income, extend the offline reserve, and make events appear more often — every upgrade card shows both the current effect and what the next level will bring.
Catching Events
Events appear without warning: tap coin bubbles, spots on the glass, and the drifting chest when they show up. A rare visitor must be touched before it swims away; doing so adds it to your collection.
Completing Tasks
Three calm goals are active at a time. Finishing them pays out coins and sometimes a pearl.
Controls
- Mouse or touch: primary input for all tapping and shop navigation
- Tap the water: nudges nearby fish aside
- Esc: closes dialogs
No keyboard is needed beyond Esc. Progress saves automatically and continues building while away.
Games You Might Like
If the unhurried pace of idle games appeals to you, there is plenty more to explore. Idle Zoo Tycoon shares the same offline-earning loop, swapping a fish tank for a growing wildlife park where habitats are upgraded and rare species unlocked. Grow Slime brings a similar sense of quiet discovery — hatch eggs, watch slimes develop through growth stages, and collect rare drops much like rare aquarium visitors. The MachinEGG adds a normal mode and a speedrun mode to its idle farm loop, offering a bit more structure for players who want defined goals alongside passive income. For something with a wider scope, Idle Island Tycoon: Sea Empire keeps coins flowing offline while you build a trading empire across tropical islands — a natural next step from managing a single tank.
