Tide & Powder puts you at the helm of a small warship in a single-player 3D pirate sailing roguelike. Each voyage has you reading the wind, threading coastal waters past tropical islands and rugged coastlines, and fighting your way toward a fortified pirate island. Naval combat, salvage runs, and harbour visits all feed into a vessel that grows stronger as the operation unfolds. Cannon fire, distinct hull and water impacts, short destruction effects, and a sailing soundtrack accompany every engagement. Several scenes show a deep blue textured sea with white frothy wake lines trailing behind the central vessel.
Take the helm, read the wind, and steer through island waters to line up your cannons against enemy ships. Sail close to defeated wrecks to collect gold and upgrades, then put into harbours to repair hull damage or purchase stronger ships. The operation ends when you destroy the pirate island's defensive batteries and bring down its central powder magazine.
Turn to bring your port or starboard broadsides into position, and use bow and stern guns for targets ahead or behind. Each gun bank has its own reload, so timing your volleys matters. Wind direction, sail settings, firing arcs, and islands all shape how you approach a fight.
After defeating an enemy ship, approach the wreck to recover gold and choose upgrades across weapons, crew, rigging, and hull. Harbours let you spend that gold on repairs or a stronger ship. Enemies grow more dangerous as your hull and upgrades improve.
Follow the operation objectives and prepare for an assault on the fortified pirate island. Destroy its defensive batteries and central powder magazine to complete the operation, then begin another voyage. Voyage progress saves automatically; select Continue to return to your voyage.
