About Sudoku Online

Sudoku Online, developed by Smartberry, is a free browser-based sudoku game — no registration, no download, just instant play. Beyond the standard grid, five distinct modes reshape the rules entirely: Classic Sudoku across four difficulty tiers, X-Sudoku with diagonal constraints, Windoku with extra highlighted regions, Killer Sudoku with cage-sum targets, and Kropki with ratio and difference markers between adjacent cells. Leaderboards rank players by level, score, and wins, while personal profiles store game history and detailed statistics. A chat lets players connect, share strategies, and challenge each other.

How to Play Sudoku Online

Fill a 9×9 grid with digits 1 through 9 so each digit appears exactly once in every row, every column, and every 3×3 box. Pre-filled cells are your starting clues.

Start With the Most Constrained Cells

Look first at cells with the most filled neighbors — fewer remaining options make the correct digit easier to identify. Each cell filled narrows the choices for adjacent ones, and the puzzle resolves through a chain of logical steps. Every puzzle has exactly one solution reachable through pure logic, no guessing required.

Use Notes Mode

Write multiple digit candidates into a cell and eliminate them as the grid fills in. This is especially useful at Hard and Expert difficulty.

Variant Mode Rules

  • X-Sudoku: digits must also be unique along both main diagonals
  • Windoku: extra highlighted regions apply the same uniqueness rule as rows, columns, and boxes
  • Killer Sudoku: groups of cells must add up to a given target sum
  • Kropki: a white dot between two cells means the digits differ by 1; a black dot means one is exactly twice the other

Controls

  • Click/Tap cell: select a cell
  • Click/Tap digit: enter a digit into the selected cell
  • Notes mode: write candidate digits into a cell

FAQ

What difficulty levels does Classic mode offer?

Classic mode has four tiers: Easy for beginners, Medium for steady practice, Hard for experienced players, and Expert for those seeking a real challenge.

How do Kropki markers work?

A white dot between two adjacent cells means their digits differ by 1. A black dot means one digit is exactly twice the other.

Does Sudoku Online track rankings and player history?

Yes. Leaderboards track rankings by level, score, and wins. Personal profiles store each player's game history and detailed statistics.

What happens if I get stuck on a puzzle?

Every puzzle has exactly one solution reachable through pure logic. Getting stuck means a step was missed — it can always be traced back rather than guessed past.
