Finding Sniffer Eggs in Ocean Ruins

Sniffers don’t spawn naturally in Minecraft worlds. Instead, you need to find sniffer eggs, which are exclusively located in suspicious sand blocks within ocean ruins. These underwater structures generate in ocean biomes and contain various loot, but sniffer eggs are among the rarest finds.

How to Locate Ocean Ruins

Ocean ruins appear as stone brick structures scattered across ocean floors. They’re most commonly found in regular ocean biomes, though they can also generate in lukewarm and cold ocean variants. Look for partially buried stone structures with suspicious sand patches – these sandy blocks have a slightly different texture than regular sand.

Extracting Sniffer Eggs

You’ll need a brush to carefully excavate suspicious sand blocks. Craft a brush using a feather, copper ingot, and stick. When you brush suspicious sand, there’s a chance it will drop a sniffer egg along with other archaeological items like pottery sherds or iron tools.

Hatching and Raising Sniffers

Once you have a sniffer egg, place it on any block and wait approximately 20 minutes for it to hatch. The hatching process creates a baby sniffer called a “snifflet.” Feed the snifflet torchflower seeds to help it grow into an adult sniffer faster.

What Sniffers Do

Adult sniffers are passive mobs that dig up ancient seeds from dirt, grass, and related blocks. They can uncover torchflower seeds and pitcher pods – unique plants that can’t be found anywhere else in the game. These seeds allow you to grow decorative torchflowers and pitcher plants.

The archaeological approach to finding sniffers adds an exciting treasure-hunting element to ocean exploration, making each discovered egg feel like a genuine archaeological discovery.

TL;DR

Sniffers are found as eggs in suspicious sand blocks within ocean ruins. Use a brush to excavate these rare eggs, then hatch and raise your own sniffer.
